The daily tasks a fire investigator is expected to perform are to inspect buildings to detect fire hazards, enforce local ordinances and state laws, and investigate and determine the cause of fire and explosions. Federal government agencies like the Bureau of Alcohol, tobacco, firearm, and explosives will hire fire investigators to determine the causes of explosions. Fire investigators also work for state agencies such as the state police (arson investigators) or the state fire marshal. Becoming a fire investigator is no easy feat, however, I already have on-the-job experience from responding to fire emergencies. Seeing the aftermath on previous fire scenes has educated me on what to inspect for when determining the origin of a fire. Having an aggressive work ethic will keep me disciplined with my goal of becoming a fire investigator. I will need to strive for many certifications that are required to become a fire investigator. “Some fire fighters become fire investigators, who determine the origin and cause of fires. They collect evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports on fires in cases may be arson or criminal negligence” (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 1998, p. 341). This quote shows that some firefighters have an interest in becoming fire investigators since they already have experience. I’m curious about how closely the fire investigators work with the municipal fire departments on determining the cause of a fire, or if there’s foul play involved. An immense challenge with becoming a fire investigator is the limited amount of jobs available. In 2001 the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) found that there were only 13,000 fire investigators in the United States. Having read into the statistics of employment on a fire inspector, I can say that it will be a challenging. Despite the difficulties of achieving this goal; I will work relentlessly until I can make my dream a reality.

I researched the prospective employer professional organization in the O*NET Online website is Association for Early Learning Leaders. The job title that is used during my search is education administrator. I picked the first result after the search because it appeared impressive and convincing for my future plans. This professional organization is a nonprofit organization that serves administrators of early care and education, owners, and directors. This organization strives to ensure that early care and education are successful by promoting leadership development and enhancing programs’ quality. This information aligns with the unique experiences and personal values I articulated in week 1 because the information supports my personal experiences and values. For instance, one of my personal values is patience, and I seek to help children improve their behavior and academic experience. The goal of the professional organization I got from the research is to strengthen the skills, abilities, values, and knowledge of its members to ensure they are able to achieve their personal goals of helping young learners succeed.

I am interested in ensuring that I advocate for young learners’ needs by creating a friendly learning environment. I also want to work in an environment that will support my values and challenge me positively for my career growth. Having run a daycare for 15 years, I have gained a lot of knowledge about children, how they learn, and their behaviors. The employer values the knowledge and abilities of its members to ensure children access quality education. Therefore, my values and knowledge match the organization’s values and we strive to achieve a common goal. The question that I have about my suitability for this career field is how the company environment will suit my career growth. This includes whether the career field offers opportunities for professional growth.
